Core Characteristics
Key Properties
- Excellent waterproof & leak-proof performance: Forms a fully sealed barrier against water, moisture, and vapor penetration.
- High temperature & weather resistance: Resists heat, cold, UV radiation, and aging, suitable for long-term outdoor use.
- Strong adhesion & sealing ability: Bonds tightly to metal, plastic, concrete, wood, and other surfaces without easy peeling.
- Corrosion resistance: The aluminum foil layer protects against rust, oxidation, and chemical damage.
- Good flexibility & conformability: Easy to wrap around irregular shapes, pipes, corners, and seams.
- Heat reflection & insulation: Reflects heat and provides basic thermal insulation for pipes and ducts.
- Durable & tear-resistant: Sturdy structure that does not easily break or degrade under normal conditions.
Adhesive Variations (for different uses)
Acrylic adhesive: Low-cost, ideal for indoor light-duty tasks (e.g., shelf lining, window heat reflection), temperature resistance roughly -20°C to 80°C.
Butyl adhesive: Strong waterproof/sealing performance, suitable for outdoor or construction use (e.g., duct gap sealing), temperature range -40°C to 120°C.
Silicone adhesive: High-temperature resistance (up to 200°C or more), used for industrial applications (e.g., oven repairs, automotive component protection).
Common Applications
- Clean the surface: Wipe the area dry, remove dust, oil, dirt, and loose materials. The surface must be smooth and dry for good adhesion.
- Cut the tape to length: Measure and cut the aluminium waterproof tape to the required size with scissors or a knife.
- Peel off the backing paper: Slowly remove the protective liner from the adhesive side.
- Apply and press firmly: Stick the tape evenly over cracks, joints, pipes, or damaged areas. Use your hand or a roller to press hard along the entire surface to eliminate bubbles and ensure full contact.
- Overlap for better sealing: For long seams or large gaps, overlap the tape by at least 2–3 cm to create a continuous waterproof layer.
- Smooth the edges: Press the edges tightly to prevent lifting, water penetration, or peeling over time.
- Avoid stretching excessively: Do not stretch the tape too much during application, as this may cause it to shrink and lose adhesion later.

Important Notes
- Surface must be clean, dry and free of oilDust, water, grease or loose paint will seriously reduce adhesion.
- Do not apply on wet or frozen surfacesMoisture under the tape will cause bubbling, peeling and poor sealing.
- Press firmly and remove air bubblesUse a roller or hard tool to press tightly; bubbles lead to water leakage.
- Avoid over-stretching the tapeStretching too much can cause shrinkage, edge lifting and failure over time.
- Allow sufficient overlappingOverlap joints by at least 2–3 cm for a continuous waterproof barrier.
- Not suitable for long-term full submersionMost aluminium waterproof tapes are for sealing and splash-proof, not permanent underwater use.
- Avoid applying to extremely hot surfacesApplying to very hot surfaces may cause the glue to soften and not stick properly.
- Store in a cool, dry placeKeep away from high temperature, direct sunlight and moisture to preserve the adhesive.
- Not recommended for flexible or constantly moving surfacesFrequent bending or movement may break the seal and cause detachment.
FAQ
Q: Can aluminium waterproof tape be used outdoors?
A: Yes, it is UV-resistant, weatherproof and heat-resistant, making it suitable for long-term outdoor use on roofs, pipes, air ducts and exterior walls.
Q: Will it stick to wet surfaces?
A: No. The surface must be clean, dry and free of oil, dust or water for strong and long-lasting adhesion.
Q: How long does aluminium waterproof tape last?
A: Under normal outdoor conditions, it can last several years. Its lifespan depends on weather, temperature changes and surface preparation.
Q: Can it be used for permanent underwater sealing?
A: Most types are designed for waterproof sealing and splash protection, not for full, constant submersion in water.
Q: Does it work on all materials?
A: It adheres well to metal, concrete, plastic, glass, wood and most building materials, but may not stick well to very oily, dusty or flexible silicone surfaces.
Q: Can it withstand high temperatures?
A: Yes, it is heat-resistant and can be used on hot water pipes, HVAC ducts and sunny roofs, though extreme direct high heat may soften the adhesive temporarily.
Q: How to remove aluminium waterproof tape if needed?
A: You can gently heat it with a hairdryer to soften the adhesive, then slowly peel it off. Residue can be cleaned with a cloth or adhesive remover.
