Backing Layer (Substrate)

• Material: Highly creped (wrinkled) paper (crepe paper), often treated with resin for strength and stability.
• Function: The micro-wrinkled structure provides flexibility, stretchability (elongation), and easy tearability.

Adhesive Layer

• Material: Typically natural rubber, synthetic rubber, or acrylic pressure-sensitive adhesive.
• Function: Provides moderate initial tack (stickiness) and secure adhesion. The adhesive is designed for clean removal without leaving residue or damaging the surface.

Release Coating

• Material: A thin layer of silicone on the back of the paper backing.
• Function: Allows the tape to unwind smoothly from the roll without sticking to itself.

1. What makes it "flexible"?

It uses a softer, more pliable backing (often fabric-reinforced paper, plastic film, or rubberised material) instead of stiff crepe paper. This lets it bend smoothly around curves.

2. What's it used for?

3. Is it the same as normal masking tape?
